Understanding Partner Admin Link (PAL): A Simple Step for Better Azure Partnership

  • January 1, 2025

As your trusted Partner, we’re committed to delivering excellent service while growing our expertise alongside your business. One tool we use to strengthen this partnership is the Partner Admin Link (PAL), a simple, behind-the-scenes feature from Microsoft that benefits us without affecting you. Here’s what PAL is, why it matters to us, and how easy it is to set up with minimal permissions.

What is PAL?

The Partner Admin Link (PAL) is a mechanism provided by Microsoft that connects our Partner ID to your Azure subscription. It’s not about billing or changing your costs—it’s a way for Microsoft to recognize our role in supporting your Azure journey. By linking our ID, we can track our involvement in managing or advising on your Azure resources, which helps us earn recognition as a Microsoft Partner without altering your experience.

No Impact on You

Adding PAL to your Azure subscription has no impact on your bill, pricing, or relationship with your current Cloud Solution Provider (CSP). Whether you’re on a CSP subscription or another Azure plan, PAL doesn’t shift costs, add fees, or change who you pay. It’s purely an administrative link that lets Microsoft know we’re working with you. Your billing stays exactly as it is, managed by your CSP or direct agreement, and your day-to-day Azure usage remains unaffected. Think of it as a silent handshake between us and Microsoft—nothing more.

The Benefit for Us as Your Azure Partner

So, why do we use PAL? As your Azure Partner, PAL allows Microsoft to recognize you as one of our valued customers in their metrics—without us needing to sell you Azure services through programs like CSP. This keeps our focus squarely on crafting the most effective and cost-efficient Azure solutions for you.

How It Works: Easy Setup, Minimal Permissions

Setting up PAL is a very simple process, and we’ve streamlined it to need the least access possible. Here’s the process:

  1. Your Approval: We’ll ask for your permission to link our Partner ID (ours is 5110164) to your Azure subscription. This is a quick yes/no from your side—usually handled by your Azure admin, but we can also help with this step.
  2. Minimal Access: We only need Reader-level permissions on your subscription. This lets us associate our ID without managing or changing your resources. No Contributor or Owner roles needed here!
  3. Quick Link: Using the Azure portal, we add our Partner ID to your subscription. It only takes a couple of seconds to link, this lets Microsoft know we are working together.
  4. Done!: Once linked, PAL keeps Microsoft informed of our working relationship. As it does nothing else, you won’t notice a thing, and we get the nod from Microsoft toward our designation goals.

That’s it.

PAL enables Microsoft to identify and recognize partners who drive Azure customer success.

Why This Matters to You

While PAL is about our partnership with Microsoft, it indirectly benefits you too. By earning designations, we stay at the forefront of Azure expertise—gaining access to advanced training, tools, and support from Microsoft. That means we can bring you even better solutions, whether it’s optimizing your cloud setup, exploring Data and AI capabilities, or ensuring your infrastructure runs smoothly.
